Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative

The Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI) provides qualifying Colorado students with scholarship awards to aid them in their pursuit of a college degree. In addition to financial assistance, COSI scholars are able to meet with COSI advisors on a regular basis. These COSI advisors take on many roles, including:

  • Providing individual and group support
  • Teaching financial literacy (including FAFSA)
  • Aiding students as they transition to college or the workforce
  • Advising and guiding students as they navigate their academic journey

The Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative aims to combine tuition aid with student support to guarantee that every Colorado student has affordable access to postsecondary education and can get the degree or certificate they need to enter the workforce.

We will develop a state-wide network exhibiting good and proven methods that address concerns of cost and access by leveraging a $35 million grant from the State of Colorado in 2014. Success in the past will motivate the General Assembly and community partners to contribute annually to finance scholarships in the future.

COSI aspires to increase accessibility by giving students access to a student support system that will help them navigate the college experience.

Student Scholarship Program with a Match

Matching Student Scholarships are available through the COSI Scholars Program. You must be financially needy and a Colorado resident to be eligible for a scholarship.

  • In-state/in-district tuition is available to Colorado residents and ASSET students.
  • Meet the minimum income requirements
  • For Financial Aid, you must be in good standing. Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirement
  • Have a current calendar year FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or CASFA (Canadian Student Financial
  • Please fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid if you are a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen (FAFSA)
  • Please fill out the Colorado Application for State Financial Aid if you are an ASSET undocumented student (CASFA)
  • Will work toward obtaining a credential or obtaining a degree

COSI is a network of student support and scholarship programs spread across Colorado. More students will enroll in, succeed in, and complete college in Colorado as a result of increased student achievement and financial resources.

Colorado counties, state universities, and community workforce programs are urged to apply for a share of the $7.5 million available in COSI awards each year. Multiple grants have been awarded to the PPCC Foundation, allowing the Foundation to assist our students’ educational hopes and objectives.


Students must additionally meet the following requirements to be eligible and receive ongoing COSI funding:

  • COSI Scholarship or Grant recipients must complete their degree or certificate within a certain amount of time.
  • For Financial Aid Satisfactory, you must be in good standing. COSI Scholarships have academic progress requirements.
  • For COSI Scholarships, you must have a current year FAFSA or CASFA.
  • Please fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid if you are a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen (FAFSA)
  • Please fill out the Colorado Application for State Financial Aid if you are an ASSET undocumented student (CASFA)
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA and make satisfactory progress toward their credential/degree.
  • Follow the rules outlined in their student agreement, which include, but are not limited to, obtaining assistance from a designated advisor to aid in their academic achievement.

What is the purpose of COSI?

Currently, skilled trades account for half of all jobs in Colorado, with an 8% gap between open positions and qualified candidates. This has an impact on the Pikes Peak Region’s growth and economic development.

Local citizens will be able to enroll in higher education degree and certificate programs that align tuition assistance with workforce development thanks to this scholarship funding. Scholarship awardees will receive education and training to prepare them for skilled trade and professional employment in El Paso County.

Scholarship Donations: Scholarship donations are a powerful way to help the Pikes Peak Region develop the workforce excellence that it requires and deserves. A $2,500 annual commitment is required for named scholarships. There are also memorial scholarships and endowed grants available.
