The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV Program) makes up to 50,000 immigrant visas available yearly, picked at random from among all entries,

to persons who come from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. The DV Program is funded by the Department of Homeland Security.

The Department of State is in charge of administering the DV Program in America (DOS).

The vast majority of lottery winners live outside of the United States and immigrate through consular procedures and the issuing of an immigrant visa to become citizens of the country.

Winners of Diversity Visas who are legally residing in the United States include: Apply through the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

A tiny percentage of lottery winners each year, however, are individuals who, at the time of “winning the lottery,” are lawfully present in the United States in the form of a nonimmigrant visa or other legal status.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) processes adjustment of status applications for these winners who reside within the United States. Only winners who are lawfully residing in the United States are eligible to receive the following information:
