The Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) Program is only open for a short amount of time during each fiscal year, and you must register during that time period. Each year, the Department of State publishes thorough guidelines for applying to the Diplomatic Volunteer Program (DV Program). In these instructions, you will find the dates for the registration period, which will allow you to enter the competition.

During the designated registration period, all entries must be submitted electronically using the Electronic Diversity Visa (E-DV) website. No paper entries will be accepted.
There will be no late entries or paper entries permitted. During each registration period, the legislation allows only one entry by or for each person, and this is strictly enforced.
In order to detect repeated entries, the Department of State makes use of sophisticated technology. If you submit more than one entry, you will be disqualified from the competition.
This website does not become available for the purpose of submitting entries until the day and hour mentioned on the DV Instructions pages is reached.

Following the completion of your entry, you will be presented with a confirmation screen that contains your name and a unique confirmation number.
Please save a copy of this confirmation screen for your records. It is critical that you keep a record of your confirmation number for future reference.
As the only means to determine whether or not you have been selected for a visa interview, you will require this information in order to acquire additional instructions or to book an interview if you have been selected.
Registration for the DV Program is completely free of charge. It is strongly recommended that you complete the admission form on your own, without the assistance of a “Visa Consultant,” “Visa Agent,” or other facilitator who offers to assist you.
If you have someone else assist you, you should be present when your entry is being produced so that you can provide the correct answers to the questions and retain the confirmation page as well as your unique confirmation number for future reference.
